T5800 Sacred Texts

In order to become responsible and responsive participants in interfaith conversations and relationships, those involved in ministry of any kind should be knowledgeable and thoughtful around the sacred texts of the world’s religions as much as is possible, The course will survey sacred texts of major and historic world religions including Primal religions of Africa and Neo-Pagan religions of our time. Students will study the historical and cultural contexts in which sacred texts developed, reflect on the meaning of texts within those contexts, and strategies for interpretation of sacred texts, and students will consider texts or their absence within modern Pagan communities. The studies and practices surrounding the world’s religions and their sacred texts can support life-long learning and reflection in relationship to them.
