Tracy Wharton
Tracy Charisse Wharton, Ph.D., M.Sc., M.Ed.
Tracy Wharton received her doctorate in Social Work, with emphases in intervention research and gerontology from The University of Alabama. She holds a social work license in the state of AL, a counseling psychology masters degree with an emphasis in Marriage & Family Therapy from Cambridge College, and a Masters of Science in Evidence Based Social Intervention from Oxford University. She is a former mental health clinician and was trained as an equine facilitated therapist, regional coordinator of family services, and a Red Cross Disaster Services volunteer, with experience at numerous local and national disasters, and clinical experience in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Dr. Wharton is a Senior Research Specialist in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Health Services, and a Program Analyst at the Ann Arbor Veterans Administration, as well as a Lecturer for the University of Michigan School of Social Work. She sits on the editorial board for the Journal of Research in Social Work Practice, is the Chair of the Social Work Topical Interest Group of the American Evaluation Association, and holds membership in the American Psychological Association, the International Assoc of Social Work, the American Evaluation Assoc, the Society for Social Work Research, and the Oxford Scientific Society. Her research has included compassion fatigue, dementia caregiving, and the uptake of evidence-based practice in human services. She has published and presented at international and national conferences. Dr. Wharton is a proud military family member (a Colonel’s daughter, a Major and a Captain’s sister, and sister-in-law to a Navy medic) with family continuously deployed since 2001. She is a member of the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids, of Crescent Birch Grove in Clarkston MI, and of Earthspirit Community in Massachusetts, where she has felt her spiritual home since 2000.
