Self-care is an important part of our overall well-being. However, some self-care industries draw heavily on Native American, Eastern, and Pagan religious and spiritual traditions without giving any context to the user. I define this as lazy spirituality, putting up a dream catcher or chakra wall-hanging to heal yourself without doing any other work.
During this 4-week course, examine the topic of spiritual/cultural appropriation through multiple published perspectives and items commonly found in subscription boxes or in stores. Complete a short project of your own, looking at subscription services, self-care books, or items for general consumption and analyze their use of borrowed cultures.
